Storytelling on the Lycian Way 2022

In two days I will be off on another storytelling adventure.

This time I’m heading to Turkey to join members of FEAST (Federation of Asian Storytellers) from four continents: Asia, Europe, Oceania, and North America.

I’m the only Canadian!!!

Being a member of FEAST is a story unto itself and begins with a pandemic that turned my storytelling world onto Zoom. The online spot where I have spent the better part of the last two years meeting storytellers from around the world.

FEAST became a monthly coffee clutch club at the crack of dawn on my side of the world. Despite being a little blurry eyed, I zoomed in to attend story swaps, listen to other tellers, tell a racy tale, and participate in numerous webinars.

So what does all of this have to do with a 509 km way-marked footpath around the coast of Lycia in southern Turkey you ask?

Keep reading daily updates to this blog and you are sure to find out about the “Lycian Way” ….after I meet Kate Clow; who I hear was instrumental in research, design, and implementation along with Terry Richardson.

My journey will begin in Istanbul with a boat ride on the Bosporus, a tour of the Topkapi Palace and Hagia Sophia Mosque, bargain hunting in the Grand Bazaar, meeting Turkish storytellers, good food and a chance to experience the dance of the Whirling Dervish.

Next stop will be a flight to Dalaman where the hiking adventure will traverse into Patara, Xantos, Myra, Arycanda, Olympos, and Phaselis. Each place boasts an ancient amphitheatre where our stories will be told to help spread light, nourish and quench the thirsty landscape.

The best part of all beyond even a dip in a sunken sea, or a village cookout, will be meeting my Zoom FEAST Friends in person.
